Discovering the Motherland

Ross Castle
For a girl with Irish heritage who had never visited Ireland, visiting here was a long-held dream that felt like coming home. I’m fortunate enough to have a good friend from study abroad who has family in western Ireland, and even more fortunate that her trip there coincided with my girls’ school vacation, so this au pair was free to hop up to the Emerald Isle and see what the fuss was all about. And let me tell you, she did not disappoint.
I flew into the airport in Shannon, Ireland late on Saturday night, where my friend and her mom were gracious enough to come pick me up and make the hour drive back to the bed and breakfast where we were staying. It was then that I learned that the reason they were here was my friend’s great aunt’s 90th birthday party, and the whole family would be there. A real Irish party? Count me in!
Party story to come in my next post 🙂
