I’m kicking off my brunch series today along the Canal Saint-Martin at a little place that I had been eyeing for awhile: La Chambre Aux Oiseaux- literally translated as the “bird room”.
The restaurant is much more popular than I had thought. We were lucky to be only two and to get a place upon walking up, even in the early afternoon on a Sunday (probably because it was August), though we’ve gone back with a group of four without a reservation and were turned away.
The brunch menu includes an endless bread basket and confiture, a cold drink, a hot drink, a plate with a soft-boiled egg, salad, soup, ham, and cheese, and some kind of main specialty. My chai tea latte was amazing, and since D didn’t want to get a full brunch, I shared part of mine with him. The soup was a cold gazpacho, and our specialty option was a delicious cold wrap, but I’ve heard that the option changes- a great spinach soufflé, if you’re lucky. At the end, dessert is also included!
If you’re looking for a filling brunch in an offbeat location, this place definitely fits the bill.
