A Western themed water park in a canyon… in Thailand. Sure, why not? 🤠

Grand Canyon Water Park was recommended to me before leaving for Thailand, and it became the perfect Sunday activity to get in some swimming and bring out our inner children. We arrived at the end of the morning and had most of the park to ourselves for the first couple of hours. Climbing, slipping, sliding, and bouncing around, we played until we got hungry, ordered food, and then played some more. It’s around a half hour drive from central Chiang Mai, and a Grab (which is like Uber) cost about 330 baht to get there. There are also songthaews (the red trucks that are like hop-on-hop-off taxis) that go out there, so we opted for a Grab on the way there for flexibility and a songthaew on the way back for convenience. If you’re spending awhile in northern Thailand, consider checking this place out for a fun, family friendly escape from the city!

Would you believe me if I told you this was a museum? ✨

Mueang Boran, or Ancient City, is the world’s largest open air museum, filled with replicas of many of Thailand’s most famous monuments, as well as creative designs that are symbolic rather than representative of an existing monument. Bike rentals are included in the entrance ticket, and while you can pay extra for a golf cart, it’s very flat with wide roads that make it easy for even the most inexperienced biker. It’s a great way to “see” different Thai monuments while staying close to Bangkok! I recommend coming mid afternoon (2-3pm) to have enough time to see everything and to get the best light, and booking in advance online as it’s much cheaper than paying on site.

Any man who wants to date me will have to accept that he will have to play second fiddle to my @canonusa 📸 Okay, mostly kidding, but isn’t it great to have something that you love that’s just for you? Some might think it’s silly that I lug a heavy camera around Paris, in my carry-on, and halfway across the world, when I have my phone with me and it has a perfectly good camera. But no phone camera captures the light as well as my @canonfrance, and nothing beats the thrill of importing my photos into @lightroom to see what I’ve managed to capture and editing it till it’s just right. It’s something I do just for myself, my version of « un petit plaisir », and while I love sharing it with you here, I’d like to think that even if this app didn’t exist, I’d still do it simply for the love of capturing moments, both real and created ✨

But in all seriousness, let’s remember that today isn’t just about women, it’s about women’s rights. In French we call it « la journée internationale des droits de la femme », and while it’s always amazing to see women lifting each other up, our rights are still being infringed upon every day, in every country across the world. So as I sip my overpriced lattes and enjoy my little escapades around Thailand, today I do so a little more somberly, thinking of all the women who don’t have my privilege, of all the women who still don’t have the respect that I am afforded simply because of my social status, passport, or the color of my skin.

If we make today about lifting each other up in words, then we must make every day about lifting each other up in actions. Where to start? I’m honestly not sure. But hey, we’re women. We always figure it out. 🦸🏻‍♀️
